A charming late oil sketch, perhaps set in Connecticut where Cornoyer taught summer courses . Signed Paul Cornoyer ’15 in the bottom left corner.
Paul Cornoyer trained in Paris at the Academy Julien in the late 1880’s under Jules Lefebvre and Benjamin Constant where he was later awarded the gold medal from the American Art Association. His prestige as a painter ultimately blossomed in New York City, capturing the light and energy of the early 20th century metropolis. He eventually settled in Massachusetts where he continued to paint, teach and exhibit until his death.
